Restaurant Marketing: Yes, Elvis Is Still In The Building

Restaurant Marketing: August 16th (1977) is the day Elvis died at Graceland. Many venues are geared up to honor the King all month long.

This brings back memories of a fun and successful Elvis promotion I ran for 5&Diner in Phoenix about 15 years ago.  

I did a week-long product promotion on milk shakes, featuring the King's favorite, Peanut Butter & Banana Shakes.

Being a diner-themed concept, the staff dressed up in 50's fashion and it became a huge event for the staff and the guests.

Results: 5&Diner had record sales in milkshakes for that week … and everyone had fun. In other words this was no hound-dog of a promotion … no suspicious minds … just a hunk a hunk a burnin' love.

Restaurant Gets Nation-wide Publicity With This Idea

Restaurant Marketing: Here's a deal that an LA restaurant is offering:  Have a dining experience where you can actually look at who you are dining with rather than looking at your cell phone screen.

The Associated Press/Toronto Star reports that the Eva Restaurant is offering a five percent discount to diners who will leave their cellphones with their staff when they are seated.

Owner Mark Gold told KPCC radio on Tuesday that the policy isn’t about other diners who might be annoyed by cellphone chatter or the glow of smartphone screens, but an attempt to create an environment where diners connect to each other instead of to technology.

Servers make the offer to diners when they introduce themselves. Gold says nearly half take advantage of the discount, and many express gratitude at the opportunity to let go of their devices for a while.

Note: Whatever you think of this idea, it's gotten this restaurant nation-wide press and word of mouth.
